Springfield M1795 Type III flintlock musket, dated 1812 on lock and buttplate. 44-3/8" barrel marked with V, P, eagle, and US. Barrel has been mostly restored with an "in the white" appearance that it would have had originally, other metal parts are a light to medium patina. Antique replacement top jaw and two screws on cock. Sling swivels are absent. Stock is good, having been cleaned to a light walnut coloration, as it might have had originally. The lower band spring is absent, associated with a chip in the stock opposite the spring where the pin came through the wood. Otherwise, stock is in sound, attractive condition, showing some expected worn slivers to the ramrod channel. This gun could be toned down for a patina look, or cleaning could be finished carefully for an "armory bright" appearance. Overall a good War of 1812 veteran. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
