American stocked Revolutionary War period flintlock musket. 41-1/2" barrel of about .75 caliber bore with octagon breech section. Barrel has French proofs, lock is French style but unmarked. Classic Patriot's musket making use of a foreign-made lock and barrel, as these were the hardest to produce without established industry, then stocked with blacksmith-made parts that could be made up by any skilled blacksmith, then stocked by a skilled cabinetmaker or gunsmith. American made triggerguard and rear band in the French style. Primitive buttplate and two brass bands. Ramrod and sideplate are absent. Metal parts have dark patina overall with some cleaning on the barrel flats for the markings, and on the lockplate. Stock shows heavy wear and use with some wood missing from the forearm edges above the middle band, chip at front and crack at rear of lock mortise, crack by lock bolt, and piece of wood detached and reattached behind the hammer. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
