Harpers Ferry M1816 percussion conversion musket. Nicely marked lock with date of 1841. Barrel proofs are present, original inspector marks opposite the lock, and NJ marking on side of barrel, indicating likely civil war service with the state of New Jersey. Outdated .69 caliber smoothbores extant in the federal and state arsenals at the outbreak of the civil war were used primarily early in the war before being replaced as up-to-date .58 caliber rifled muskets became available. Metal parts are untouched with wonderful rust patina overall and some pitting apparent around the nipple. Stock is also untouched with nice original edges, has a small crack by rear lock bolt, and a small chip at rear of lock mortise. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
