Harpers Ferry M1795 flintlock musket. Beautifully marked original flint lock dated 1813. Barrel shortened to 42-1/8 during the period, as evidenced by a simple mortise that may have once held a bayonet lug. The barrel may have been shortened due to wear/damage or to bring it into conformity with later 42" barreled muskets. Metal parts show a rich, smooth, almost black untouched patina with some pitting on the buttplate and barrel breech area, with some old rust on other parts. Stock is evenly worn and restored from the middle band forward, which is nicely colored and not immediately apparent. There are some minor age checks by the buttplate, a crack by the rear lock screw and a crack in the forearm edge in front of the lock. There is a partly visible inspector mark opposite the lock and two inspector marks between the buttplate and triggerguard in the stock. Has initials "LI" by triggerguard, possible initials opposite lock, and a faint name in the left side of the butt. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
