Wonderful C1750 Hudson Valley longfowler. 50-1/2" round barrel with bore of about .70 caliber. Nice early barrel with swamped (flared muzzle) and large blade front sight shows no apparent proofs, has a "wedding band" and a flared engraved tang. Early engraved trade lock. Metal parts have a medium to dark patina overall, early Dutch-influenced sideplate, triggerguard, wrist escutcheon, and buttplate. Buttplate is worn through from use at the heel. Ramrod ferule is brass, other ramrod pipes are plain iron. Stock is nicely carved around the lock, sideplate, barrel tang, ramrod ferule, triggerguard and buttplate. 2-1/4" thick buttstock allows the long gun to nicely balance at the back of the ramrod ferule. Stock shows dark patina and wear from period use, has a small worn chip at the toe of the butt. Has an old crack along the bottom of the left side of the butt, some old slivers missing from the front portion of the forearm edges with associated cracking. This fowler will be an ideal specimen when its restoration to flintlock is completed. Lock still clicks, but is missing the mainspring. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
