Scarce Ball patent repeating carbine by E.G.Lamson & Co., Windsor VT. A cousin to the Spencer in caliber and repeating function, only 1002 of these carbines were produced and delivered too late to have possibly seen civil war service. An unusual design, the hammer must be cocked manually in order to work the lever to operate the action or open it for reloading. The cleaning rod threads in and acts to pull on the plunger for reloading. This example is nicely marked with visible cartouche behind the ring bar. Metal parts have an attractive patina overall with plumb original blue finish on the barrel and some case colors on the frame in protected places. Stock has an attractive patina from use with expected minor handling marks and minor scraping from the barrel band on the forearm. Wood is free of cracks and chips. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
