Springfield M1877 .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 84282. This gun was made early in the production run of 20,000 rifles, which was the fewest out of any of the five production model rifles. It shows early features persisting of the "high arch" breech block and "slotless" rear sight screws. Metal parts have fine original finish including case colors on breech block and blue on other parts. Faint cartouche is present opposite lock and "P" firing proof" is behind the triggerguard along with rack number 49. Stock is very good with an older added finish, shows scattered marks from handing, including two semi-circular dings in front of the buttplate tang, and some minor nicks in the cleaning rod channel, but is free of cracks and chips. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
