Springfield M1871 Army rolling block .50-70 rifle. Metal parts have a mottled patina with some scattered patches of pitting. Missing cleaning rod and rear sight ladder. Frame tang screw head is badly buggered and cannot be removed. Stocks are fair overall but with an excellent inspector cartouche. Cleaning rod channel has some minor slivers missing, a small spot on the right side of the forearm is filled with wood dough, there are several severe abrasions on both sides of the wrist, a chip behind the right side of the frame and a large chip behind the lower frame tang. Neatly stamped RAC in two spots in the metal and on each side of the forearm, reputedly the mark of an unnamed museum in Texas. This is a gun that didn't see a lot of use, but suffered from the way it was stored over the years. Mechanically good except action is a little sticky, possibly from old grease, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
