Springfield-Remington M1871 Army rolling block rifle. This is the only rolling block model made for US Army use. .50-70 caliber. 36" round barrel. Vivid original case colors on breech block, oil-quenched finish on rear sight, band springs, and rod, other parts are carefully restored to "in the white" polish. Stock has a well-defined "ESA" script cartouche on left side of wrist. Wood overall shows little wear and use, but has numerous small handling scratches and small bruises, free of cracks and chips with exception of a tiny chip by the forearm cap. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
