Fine condition M1868 Springfield .50-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 42312. Dated 1863 on lock and 1870 on breech block. Color casehardened lock, black casehardened breech, other parts are light and finished "in the white". Stock is nicely cartouche four times opposite the lock. Wood has nice edges with a smooth, attractive appearance showing scattered handling marks and one 1" long chip in the ramrod channel on the right side. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
