US M1817 "Common" rifle by N. Starr, 1842. Nicely marked lock and barrel, faint cartouche in stock opposite lock. Metal parts have a mottled medium gray color, and a little pitting in the barrel breech. Patchbox latch replaced with a small screw-in eye. Nice markings on lock and barrel, stock cartouche visible but faint. Diamond inlay is present in stock opposite the lock. Stock shows average wear and use overall with some added finish, a small crack by the lock screw, a small chip by the matchbox, a small piece missing above the front of the lock and a small area of "powder burn" behind the hammer. Overall, a gun that displays well. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
