"VAN WART SON & Co LONDON" as engraved on top of barrel, diminutive sidehammer percussion boxlock pistol with side-mounted belt hook. 3-3/8" octagon barrel of .38 caliber bore, about 7" overall. Overall smaller than average size for a belt hook equipped gun, and with a distinctive dog-leg grip with grotesque cap. Nicely engraved frame and barrel. Metal parts are a medium to dark patina with some scattered pitting. Wood grip is nicely checkered with a shield-shaped escutcheon in addition to the grotesque cap. Wood is free of cracks and chips. Action is non-functional. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
