Springfield M1863 Type II musket, dated 1864 on lock. Original length barrel bored smooth, stock shortened to lower band spring. Visible eagle marking on bolster and barrel proofs; barrel date not visible. Earlier style triggerguard with riveted swivel. Metal parts are mostly a dark patina, cleaned a little in the barrel breech area, having some scattered pitting overall, more concentrated in the barrel breech area. Ramrod absent. Stock shows moderate wear and use with moderate handling marks, minor crack by front lock screw, and small crack behind rear of lock. Buttstock and flat opposite lock have cross carvings reminiscent of the VI Corps of the Union Army of the Potomac. Faint cartouche present. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
