Springfield M1863 musket, shortened for sporting purposes. Nicely marked lock with date of 1863. Visible barrel proofs. Barrel shortened to 33" long, stock shortened and finished to just in front of lower barrel band. Barrel was cleaned, other parts have medium to dark patina with some scattered pitting. Stock shows worn dry age checking, small piece of wood missing above the front of the lock, and some minor chipping near the barrel band. Sling swivel is absent. Interesting original ramrod with holes applied long ago, probably for wiping cloths. Lock works, but doesn't click well into full cock, internally, the bridle itself and the sear screw are broken. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
