Rare Transitional Type I/II M1795 Springfield flintlock musket. Dated 1805 on lock and 1806 on buttplate. 44-1/2" barrel. Rare pointed triggerguard used only in 1806. Hammer jaw screw appears to be reworked long ago from the original screw when it was damaged. Nicely marked lock, barrel proofs, and faint "US" cartouche in script on the stock flat opposite the lock. Metal parts have a light gray patina overall with spotting and some pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock is lightly refinished with a repaired break in the wrist. Also has some minor slivering to the ramrod channel. Has an "M" marking in the stock behind the triggerguard of the style associated with guns and bayonets that are accepted to have been so marked by the state of Maryland. Nice original sling swivels and ramrod. Mechanically good with strong action, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
