Harpers Ferry M1816 Type I percussion conversion musket dated 1821 on lock and barrel. 42" barrel. Drum and nipple conversion similar to one identified as a Memphis Arsenal (CSA) product. Most parts numbered "3" with lower band numbered "2" and one lock bolt numbered "1". Metal parts have a good brown patina overall with some pitting mostly on the buttplate and barrel breech. Ramrod is 31" long, too short for the gun, but fills the ramrod channel well for display. Stock is well worn with a repaired break in the wrist that has a small amount of replaced wood in the lock mortise. Butt has some dry age cracking near the buttplate that has had some wood filler applied, the ramrod channel edges were slivered long ago and worn, there is a lateral crack on the flat opposite the lock, and there is a small worn away area between the hammer and barrel tang from powder burn from use. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
