M1816 Type I Harpers Ferry flintlock musket. Dated 1822 on lock with Harpers Ferry proof marks on barrel. Metal parts are a mottled medium to dark patina with minimal scattered pitting. Ramrod is old and has an unusual tip, measures 39-3/4" long. Stock shows light wear and use overall, still retaining good looking edges and some open-grained appearance. Has a small crack in front of the lock and a couple other tiny checks, as well as some expected handling marks, but overall better than average condition for an early M1816. Few this nice escaped conversion to percussion, but this gun seems to have seen some careful use, with the frizzed showing an old refacing and the flash hole being well-worn. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
