Double-US surcharged percussion conversion French M1763 musket by Maubeuge. From the Dr. David Wolfe collection, includes provenance/information sheet indicating its original purchase from Frances Getman Lane of Lassellsville, NY in 2004. Page indicates that Ms. Lane is a descendent of Christian Getman, who used this musket as a member of the Tryon County NY militia at the Battle of Saratoga. 43-1/4" round barrel. Lock marking "Maubeuge" in script in front of hammer is faint but mostly discernible. Strong "US" surcharge at rear of lock and same "US" surcharge on top of barrel breech. French proof at left side of barrel. Sling swivels are absent. Metal parts have a smooth untouched brown patina overall with some minor expected pitting in the barrel breech area. Stock has an evenly worn, untouched appearance with nice patina, scattered little chips in the edges, expected handling marks, small chip in lock mortise, small crack by lock screw, and small chip at rear of barrel tang, all expected and welcomed in a gun that saw Revolutionary service and may have served future generations for another hundred years or more in the Mohawk Valley. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
